Water Footprint (ISO 14046) Mentoring

CimpactPro Water Footprint Mentoring Program

The aim of the program is for the organization to reach the permanent competence to conduct a Water Footprint study in accordance with the ISO 14046 standard with its own team. At the end of the mentoring, the team will be able to correctly conceptualize the impact of water scarcity with blue water, green water, gray water components, establish data flows, perform methodological calculations and produce a verifiable report in-house.

Weekly Flow and Outputs

1. Week Introduction and preliminary scope framework

Kickoff and communication protocol. Basic concepts of ISO 14046. Preliminary framework for the purpose of the study, system boundary, geographical and time scope. Clarification of organizational roles and responsibilities.

Targeted outputs: Project opening minutes, preliminary draft of purpose and scope, responsibility matrix.

2. Week Objective and scope finalization, functional unit

Functional unit definition. Finalization of system boundary and reference flows. Identification of hydrological basins and supply zones. Identification of data sources and measurement plan.

Targeted outputs: Purpose and Scope Document, functional unit and system boundary document, data collection plan.

3. Week Water inventory Data collection and classification

Inventory of in-plant water inputs, process consumption, recovery, discharge and losses. Identification of prioritized levels of water use in the supply chain. Processing of blue, green and gray water distinctions in the data template.

Targeted outputs: Water Inventory Data Collection Form, priority list of supply levels.

4. Week Water balance and quality parameters

Reconciliation of inputs and outputs using a mass balance approach. Determination of quality parameters of discharges and graywater calculation approach. Management of data gaps and assumption protocol.

Targeted outputs: Water Balance Table, record of data gaps and assumptions, list of discharge quality parameters.

5. Week Preparation for impact assessment Geographical characterization data

Selection of basin-based water scarcity factors with seasonality and geographical distinctiveness. Introduction to water scarcity characterization methods such as AWARE. Mapping and mapping.

Targeted outputs: Basin and supply zones characterization set, method selection note.

6. Week LCIA Classification and characterization application

Classification of inventory flows into impact categories. Application of characterization coefficients and generation of water scarcity equivalent results by the selected method.

Targeted outputs: LCIA intermediate table, characterization results, uncertainty notes.

7. Week Hotspot analysis and scenarios

Identification of water footprint hotspots by product, process, supplier and region. Development of scenarios. Identifying mitigation and efficiency priorities. Sharing the report template.

Targeted outputs: Hotspot Analysis Report, scenario set summary, report draft template.

8. Week Interpretation, final report and sustainability roadmap

Interpretation of results. Assessment of the impact of assumptions and uncertainties. Final report table of contents and visual set. Roadmap of mitigation and monitoring indicators. Program closure and follow-up plan.

Targeted outputs: Final Water Footprint Report, visual set, sustainability roadmap, follow-up plan.

Note

The program includes weekly mentoring sessions and hands-on training. Methodological progression and in-house capacity building are essential. The process is monitored through standard checklists, task plan, training records and release management with CimpactPro MENTOR 360 approach.
