LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) Mentoring

CimpactPro LCA Mentoring Program

The aim of the program is for the organization to achieve permanent competence to conduct Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in accordance with ISO 14040 and ISO 14044 standards. At the end of the mentoring, the team establishes the LCA model for the selected product / service, manages the activity data and emission factors correctly and can carry out software-supported analysis and reporting in-house.

Weekly Flow and Outputs

1. Week Project start and general information

Kickoff and communication protocol. Preliminary framing of purpose and scope. Review of previous LCA experiences and existing data infrastructure. Green maturity testing and opening of project documentation.

Targeted deliverables: Project opening minutes, mentoring framework document, communication plan, green maturity report.

2. Week Objective and scope finalization, pre-critical review

Training in the framework of ISO 14040/44. Final determination of functional unit and system boundary. Pre-critical review session and draft purpose and scope document.

Targeted outputs: Functional Unit and System Boundary Document, draft Purpose-Scope Document, Preliminary Critical Review Note.

3. Week Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) Activity data and emission factor selection

LCI scope and data criteria. Activity Data Collection Plan, completion of LCI Data Collection Form, selection of appropriate emission factor (EF) set and technical approval.

Targeted outputs: LCI Data Collection Form, EF version list, data-source and version records.

4. Week LCI Calculation and aggregation

AD×EF calculations, process-based normalization and creation of a total CO₂e inventory.

Targeted outputs: Emission Calculation Tables, normalized and total emission summary.

5. Week LCI Data quality, uncertainty and balance checks

Data quality matrix, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, mass and energy balance checks.

Targeted outputs: Data Quality Matrix, Uncertainty Analysis Notes, Sensitivity Study Results, Balance Check Form.

6. Week Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) Classification, characterization, hotspot

Impact categories and methods. Classification and characterization applications. Hotspot analysis.

Targeted outputs: LCIA intermediate table, characterization report, hotspot analysis report.

7. Week LCIA Normalization / grouping / weighting (optional) and report draft

Normalization and (preferably) grouping-weighting by selected methods. Sharing of LCA report template and annexes.

Targeted outputs: Normalized LCIA profile, summary of weighting scenarios, report draft template.

8. Week Interpretation, final report and continuity

Interpretation phase; incorporation of uncertainty and sensitivity findings into the report. Final report table of contents and recommendations for improvement. Program closure, performance evaluation and follow-up plan.

Targeted outputs: Final LCA Report, draft Findings and Recommendations section, Performance Evaluation Note, Follow-up/Office Hours Plan.

Note

The program includes weekly mentoring sessions and hands-on training. Methodological progression and in-house capacity building are essential. The process is monitored with standardized checklists, task plan and release management with CimpactPro MENTOR 360 approach.
