Ecological footprint
It is a calculation made to measure how much of the earth's resources are utilized to meet the needs of people such as food, shelter and heating.
The calculation formula is as follows:
Ecological Footprint (Hectare) = Consumption x Production Area x Population
The extent to which consumption areas such as agricultural land, pastures, forests and seas are used gives the area of consumption. Factors such as the amount of water consumed, the amount of electricity used, the weight of timber consumed give the measure of production. The number of people consuming natural resources in a given area gives the population figure.
